About Us

In 1935 several visionary Cape Verdeans gathered and discussed their desire to have a club, a location where they can come together to celebrate their culture and to share each others joys. From this vision the Cape Verdean Social Club was born.

Our first official home was located at 1 Vine Street in Waterbury. Throughout the years the quaint location helped us create many cherished memories. We celebrated holidays and feast days, welcomed family members, celebrated birthdays and bid farewell to loved ones. Over the years our community outgrew the small club and in the early 1990’s we moved to our current location. Our new spacious location enabled us to proudly welcome Heads of State, foreign and local dignitaries, friends and family visiting from throughout the diaspora. To all visitors we open our doors and our hearts and extend the uniquely Cape Verdean “Morabeza”.

Shortly we will celebrate our 87th Anniversary, an accomplishment that has only been possible through the hard work, sacrifice and dedication of numerous members over the years. We have experienced many lean years but we forge ahead with the belief that the dream of the founding members, to preserve the culture and traditions of Cape Verde and to ensure Cape Verdean descendants would come to know and enjoy the indigenous culture of our ancestors, is much too precious to let it die. Our Club has become a part of our heritage and we strive to keep the organization alive for future generations to enjoy. In addition we welcome all Cape Verdeans throughout the diaspora to join us in body or in spirit. If you are ever in town, we welcome you to stop in and experience the Morabeza of the Cape Verdean Social Club of Waterbury.

This webpage is a continuation of our commitment to improve the communications within our community. We would also like to keep our members, friends and family in the diaspora informed of events in our community.
